Can the Conference assist me in obtaining a visa to the United States?

Please be advised that the DPI/NGO Section cannot assist NGO representatives in obtaining United States visas, and we cannot fax confirmation letters to United States embassies.

Many countries have special agreements with the United States which allows their citizens to visit for a limited period of time without the requirement of a visa.

How do I find accommodations?

The NGO Executive Committee and the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation have put together two unique Land Travel packages for your Conference stay.

How do I get to the Conference?

The Annual DPI/NGO Conference will be held in New York, at the United Nations Headquarters located on 1st Avenue at 46th Street. Grand Central Station, located on Lexington Avenue and 42nd Street, is only a few blocks away from the UN.

Where do I register for the Conference?

Registration will take place inside the UN complex. Please enter through the Visitor’s Entrance at First Avenue and 46th Street.  After passing through metal detectors, there will be signs leading to the registration area.

What are the dos and don’t’s inside the UN complex?

Do comply with the requests and instructions of United Nations officials and security staff relating to access and use of United Nations facilities and premises.

Do not interfere with the free flow of traffic at any time. United Nations security staff is authorized to request any person to move from any area or to remove their belongings for safety and security reasons.

Do not access any floor above the fifth floor of the United Nations Secretariat building without an appointment with a United Nations official.

Do not enter designated media areas. Persons without a media pass are not permitted to carry media equipment onto United Nations premises. Any person attempting to do so, or falsely representing him / herself as a media representative, will be removed from conference rooms and from other designated media areas.

Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited in the conference rooms. Flash cameras are not allowed when meetings are in session, and cellular phones must be switched off.

Participants may carry small briefcases or handbags into conference rooms. Large bags, suitcases, trolleys or carryalls are not permitted in conference rooms.

Is there funding available for participants?

Arrangements for travel, visa, and accommodations, as well as all expenses related to participation in the Conference, must be provided for entirely by the participants or their sponsoring organization.

Will there be Internet access at UN Headquarters?

If you bring your own computer, there is wireless Internet access in various parts of the UN building.
