NGO/DPI Research

One goal of the NGO/DPI Executive Committee is to provide valuable assistance to NGOs that seek other NGOs with similar areas of interest.  Through the U.N. DPI Section website, the NGOs with consultative status with the United Nations is listed in a searchable database.  This can be used as a starting point to find groups of people that are striving toward similar goals.  Relationships and synergy can be attained through more communication; thus helping to solve the goals of the United Nations.

This page intends to provide you with some tips on how to utilize the research tool at the United Nations website.

Getting to the United Nation's, DPI Section website

Simply use this link, or go to www.un.org/dpi/ngosection and click on DIRECTORY at the far right of the menu.

Search Database

There are two options to search the database. 

If you know a part of the NGO name, you can type that word or phrase in the search box that appears on the right of the screen where it says "Search for:";  then click on the FIND button.

On the left side, you can select the region of the world, the Country, then the Activity to build a list of the NGOs that work in a particular activity area.

Once a list of possible NGOs appear, you can click on the organization name to display information about that group.

When using the Name search, use the BACK BUTTON on your browser to return to the list.

When using the selected Activity search, the list remains shown on the left side, and you can select any NGO that you wish to show displayed.

Use Email

When an email address is displayed, and you wish to send an email to that NGO, simply HIGHLIGHT that email address, and use the COPY function.  (found in the Edit Menu of your browser).  Open a blank email, and click on the "TO" field to address your email message.   Then use the PASTE function.  Complete composing the SUBJECT and MESSAGE of your email and SEND. 

Go to website

When a website address is displayed, and you wish to view NGOs web page, simply HIGHLIGHT that address, and use the COPY function.  (found in the Edit Menu of your browser).  Open a new Browser window, and click on the "ADDRESS" field; then use the PASTE function.  In some cases, you have to click on a GO button to go to that website.  By opening a new browser window, you will find it easy to return to the DPI/NGO Directory page.
